Message from Siemers
What an amazing first two weeks of school! While there are always hiccups that occur, the positive culture and engagement seen has been affirming to witness. We enjoyed hosting families on Wednesday for our Curriculum Night and would love to hear your feedback about the event. Please take a few minutes to drop an email to siemersj@rsd407.org. We want to make sure our community engagement events are working for the students, families and community members we serve.
For those new to CHS or to reading this newsletter, I do always try to include something that sheds light on, or educates us about, the world around us. September is National Preparedness Month and this year’s theme is “Start a Conversation”.
National Preparedness Month is an annual campaign to remind everyone that preparing for emergencies and disasters can keep them, their families and their communities safe. You can find out more information here.
Thank you for being such amazing partners in the work we do to serve the students of the Riverview School District.
Our next newsletter is scheduled for Friday, 9/27/2024.

Helpful Resources
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Below is some helpful Info from Ready Washington regarding this year’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
As fall approaches, it's an exciting time to prepare for the new academic year and all the opportunities it brings for Washington students!
The U.S. Department of Education has announced that this year’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available by December 1— later than usual. While this is a disappointing update, many resources are available for students and families navigating the challenges caused by this year’s delays or preparing for next year.
Students: Given this update, being prepared is more important than ever! Take advantage of the resources available to get your questions answered and information ready so you can submit your application as soon as the form is available in December.
A few helpful resources to get support right now:
- OtterBot is a free texting service available to all Washington high school students and their families, offering information about financial aid and college planning. Help is available 24/7!
- College Success Foundation (CSF) is offering free FAFSA help to 2024 high school graduates through September, with free, virtual one-on-one sessions.
- College Possible Washington is also offering virtual FAFSA/WASFA individual appointments for students and family members to get support.
We know that Washington students have incredible potential, and financial aid is crucial in helping them pursue their educational goals. With the right support, the path to a bright future is within reach!
Cell Phone Policy
Being focused in class is important for an authentic and engaging learning experience. Cell phones have become a constant disruption and distraction, so we want to remove that distraction so students can focus on the class. Cell phone use is allowed between classes and during assigned lunch.
The CHS Cell Phone Policy:
During class time, CHS students need to have their cell phones stored. They can choose the shared cell phone pouches, a class charging station or put away in their backpacks.
Cell phones will remain stored for the duration of a class period with the exception of specific teacher direction
Cell phones need to remain in the classroom when students leave during the class period for purposes of restroom or water fountain access, etc.

Call for Student Artists from City of Duvall
The City of Duvall is seeking proposals from high-school age artists and muralists to design and paint a mural featuring "Birds of the Snoqualmie Valley." This opportunity is open to all high-school-age mural artists residing within the Riverview and Snoqualmie Valley school district boundaries, though attendance at either CHS or Mt. Si HS is not required. The selected artist or artist team will need to present their final design to the City of Duvall Cultural Commission before work commences. For more information on the project click here, and for information on proposal submittal, reach out to Rita Moreno rita.moreno@duvallwa.gov.
Communicating with CHS
The best way to communicate with CHS, should you have an issue, is to reach out directly to the staff member involved first. If this is not resolved at the staff/teacher level, please reach out to the alpha-assigned counselor for your specific student.
Aaron Clifford - clifforda@rsd407.org Last Names A-G
Margaret Russ - russm@rsd407.org Last Names H-Pa

If you still have questions or concerns after attempting to resolve with teacher directly and counselor, please contact your student’s alpha-assigned administrator. (If questions and concerns are general in nature, it is appropriate to contact an administrator directly.)

The next step if there is still no resolution, contact the principal, Jeannette Siemers at siemersj@rsd407.org.
The next step if the building principal cannot successfully resolve your situation, is to contact RSD Director of Teaching, Learning and School Leadership, Dr. John Lombardi at lombardij@rsd407.org.
Safe Schools
Safety is one of our district’s top priorities and to help safeguard our school community, we’ve taken an important step that we want to share with you. Our district is now using Vector Alert, a tip reporting service that allows students, staff and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration. While we have QR codes posted on campus, Vector Alert allows for five different ways of reporting:
APP: Search for “SafeSchools” in the App Store to download for free
PHONE: 425-689-7498
TEXT: 425-689-7498
EMAIL: 2141@alert1.us
ONLINE: http://2141.alert1.us (District code 2141)
Visitors on Campus Including Part-Time Students
Any individual who is not a current CHS student or CHS staff member must check in at the main office immediately upon arrival to campus. If your student is enrolled part-time at CHS, they should only be on campus during their scheduled classes during the school day. Those part-time students who participate in clubs and sports are fully welcome to be here outside the school day and of course, all are welcome for school events that occur outside school day. We need to be able to accurately account for students should an emergency occur during the school day.
Parent Square Access
All school and district communication will come through ParentSquare. To make sure you are connected and do not miss important information, please download the ParentSquare app.
Download the ParentSquare app (iOS - iOS Store / Android - Google Play Store) and then activate your account using the email address or cell number on file in Qmlativ.
Students can download the StudentSquare app (iOS - iOS Store / Android - Google Play Store) and then activate their accounts using their RSD email address.
If you have questions or need assistance accessing ParentSquare, please contact Tracie Kelly at kellyt@rsd407.org or (425) 844-4804.
Bus Passes
Students must have a pass to board a bus with their friend. Additionally, students must have a pass if they are riding their regular bus but disembarking at a different stop.
Parents & Guardians: you may request a bus pass for your student by calling or emailing the Attendance Office or the Main Office no later than 1:30pm, or 12pm on early release Fridays. Bus passes are not provided by student request.
Bus passes are required for students traveling in the district via RSD buses. Students needing to travel to volunteer at one of the elementary schools, driving school, KCLS Libraries in Duvall or Carnation, etc., must have a parent-requested pass to board a bus.
