Students and parents are invited to join us on Wednesday, February 18, in the CHS Theater to learn more about the college application process and the Running Start program. Sessions are intended for 10th- and 11th-grade students and their parent/guardians, but all families are welcome. You may attend one or both presentations.

Event Schedule

  • 6:00–6:40 PM — College Planning Kickoff

  • 6:40–6:45 PM — Break

  • 6:45–7:30 PM — Running Start Information Night

College Planning Kickoff

This presentation will be hosted by the Cedarcrest Counselors and the College & Career Center. Topics will include:

  • Post High School Pathways

  • College Search / building your list

  • How to apply

  • Elements of the College Application

  • High School and Beyond Plan – Graduation Requirement!

  • Financial Aid and Scholarships

The presentation will conclude with a Q&A session.

Running Start Information Night

The Cedarcrest Counseling Department will host a Running Start Information Night following the college planning presentation.

Topics will include:

  • What is Running Start?

  • Pros and Cons

  • The kinds of classes students take

Students and parents considering Running Start are encouraged to review the information on the Cedarcrest website, which includes links to local community colleges and details about their specific Running Start programs. It is important for both students and parents to carefully review information from the community college the student is considering.

This presentation will also be offered to CHS students during PACK time on 2/19, 2/25, and 3/3. Students may register through Smart Pass.

Important Information for Parents

Parents play an important role in supporting students who choose Running Start. Please note that parents do not have access to student grades or college instructors. Students are expected to function as independent college students. While Running Start offers many benefits, it represents a significant shift, and families should be fully informed before making this decision.

We hope you can join us for this informative evening.
